- Research emphasis:
- Tarry 13-715, 300 East Superior, Chicago IL 60611
Basic research is focused on the genetics of ALS, both in familial (FALS)
and sporadic disease (SALS). Current investigation includes examination of
the role of SOD1 in ALS, as well as the search for additional causative
genes in both dominant and recessive FALS. We continue to enroll families
with FALS as they become available. In addition,we are actively recruiting
families of SALS patients to investigate predisposing genetic factors in
sporadic cases of ALS. The study requires a blood sample from SALS patients and their
parents. If both parents are not available, samples from one parent and
patient's siblings may be used. Blood tubes are provided and shipping
costs paid.
