- The Carolinas ALS Center offers a major multi-disciplinary clinic approach with unique resources available for treatment of patients and assistive devices. The initial evaluation is completed in two days with each patient being evaluated by the entire ALS Team (12-14 members). Once the patient is diagnosed, they are followed every three months in a full day clinic where the entire ALS Team again assesses them. Recommendations are made for treatment modifications or suggestions for inclusion in an ongoing clinical trial. Assistive devices for gait or speech are made available that day or arrangements are made for delivery. Abundant patient education materials are available. The Center also maintains a network of patient support groups throughout North and South Carolina.
